How We Fight the Sniffles

Now I’m not saying I’m a Florida girl… but living there for over 4 years completely erased what winter is like up north from my memory. I’ve had my heat on since the beginning of October, just to give you a little insight on how I am handling this cold.

My body, on the other hand, is not having it. Neither is my immune system. We aren’t even technically in winter yet, and I’m already feeling the cold effects. Dry skin, chapped lips, seasonal depression (here we go) and of course, that runny/stuffy nose.

Kid’s get sick. All the time. So naturally, mom’s get sick and dad’s get sick. I feel so bad when babies have runny noses. They don’t know how to blow into tissues yet, so they just let their boogers drip down everywhere.

Let’s just say, I have been wearing baby boogers on my t-shirt for the past week, and have received a lot of snotty kisses.

Myla and I both have been battling the sniffles. Between lots of tissues, and a snot sucker full of boogers, we are both over it. I could just let the cold ride out… but if you’re like me, you want relief, and fast. And obviously, I’m going to find natural ways for cold relief, because that is what I am all about.

Essential oils never disappoint in this household. I swear by them. They have proven their effectiveness to me so many times, that I will never doubt their ability. So off to my stash I go for some quick relief from this cold.

And of course, the only oils I use are Young Living. It’s the only company I trust, because I know I am getting the highest quality oil possible. And I don’t take any short cuts when it comes to mine or my baby’s health.

With that being said, I will share what’s worked for us:

I love the KidScents blend, “Sniffleease.” It comes pre-diluted, so I can apply it directly to Myla’s skin. I usually apply one drop to her chest throughout the day as needed, and a drop before bed to ensure she gets a good nights sleep. It smells so good, and helps to open up her airways so she can breathe better, boogers aside. Think like a vapor rub, but non-toxic. 😉

I am also diffusing all. day. long. If you don’t have an essential oil diffuser… you need to get one. My diffusers are constantly going in our home. Not only do they smell amazing, but you can mix and match with different oils depending on your needs that day. I have 2 dogs, a cat, and a one year old, but my house will never smell like it.

To help us fight off these colds, I’ve been diffusing Young Living’s Thieves essential oil, with Raven essential oil. These two oils kick some serious cold ass. Thieves is amazing for all things germs. It helps to clean and purify the air, while also making my house smell so good. It’s a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalypts radiata, and rosemary.

Raven, on the other hand, is so cool and refreshing, and really helps to open up your airways so you can breathe better. It never lets me down. It’s a blend of ravintsara, peppermint, eucalyptus radiata, lemon, and wintergreen.

Did you know that oils are so versatile? I also put a drop of thieves on my thumb and press it to the roof of my mouth. And when I need some instant relief, I will apply raven topically to my chest. Not only do I smell good after, but I feel good.

You might be thinking… how do oils kill germs? Look it up! It’s tried and true.

On the topic of germs, you know I am ALWAYS cleaning. There is no cleaner I trust more than Young Living’s Thieves cleaner. It smells so good, makes my house so clean, and I can use it on any surface. I’ll clean my mirrors, counters, floors, bathroom, and even Myla’s high chair with it. It’s completely non-toxic, has ZERO nasties, and doesn’t leave behind any nasty residue.

Give me all the oils, because I am OBSESSED. I swear there is an oil for everything you need. And if you think I’m crazy, please don’t knock it until you try it.

If you are looking for non-toxic ways to help keep you and your family healthy, I will always recommend oils. Have questions? Feel free to ask me! I am no expert, by any means, but I’ve been using oils for almost a year and half now, and I’ve acquired so much knowledge along the way.

P.s. I don’t let her play with my oils, this was just for the photo 😉
